The cost of the sandwich and drink breakfast combo went up 10% from $10 to $11 at the local bakery near my office. It seems a lot, but compare to the other prices that went up in the bakery like the hotdog ($5 to $6, up 20%), and the prices of eggs, pork, beef, grain, rice at the supermarket (basically all food) went up to 30% in less than a year.
I am not sure if it’s food shortage, depreciating US dollar, raising fuel cost, raising demand of goods by developing giants like China and India or global warming, but whatever the factors, we are going to be living in world with much higher cost of living. Food will become even more expensive. The poor will suffer most. The very rich’s standard of living will hardly be affected, and the middle class will again be forced to carry the bulk of society in this increasingly harsh world.
